How to watch an M3U or Xtream playlist on Android TV
If your IPTV provider gave you a playlist, you need a player app to watch it on Android TV. Below is the setup with None TV, step by step. The part people get stuck on is typing a long server address with the remote, and there's an easy way around that too.
What did your provider give you?
Providers usually send one of two things:
- An Xtream account: a server address (like
http://example-server.com:8080), a username and a password. - An M3U link: a single address ending in
.m3uor.m3u8, or one withget.php?username=in it.
Both work. If you have the Xtream details, use those: movies and series come with their categories, posters and descriptions. An M3U list often has just names and logos.
1. Install the app
On your TV, search for "None TV" in Google Play and install it. It runs on TVs and boxes with Android TV or Google TV.
2. Choose how to start
On first launch you'll see two ways in:
- If None TV is on your phone, scan the code on screen with it. The TV joins your phone's account and your playlist comes along; you can skip the next step.
- If not, or if you use an iPhone, choose Start on this TV.
3. Add your playlist
The add-source screen has two tabs: Xtream account and Playlist link. Pick the one you have, fill in the fields and press Connect.
None TV first checks the details with your provider, then loads the channels, movies and series. With a large playlist this can take a little while; the screen says Loading the catalog.
You don't have to type the address with the remote
This was the most common problem I saw with the first users: typing a long server address one letter at a time. There are two easier ways:
- Add it from your phone. The same screen shows a QR code. Scan it with your phone's camera and enter the details on your phone or computer. The TV picks them up within a few seconds. You don't need None TV on the phone, and it works on an iPhone.
- Use the Google TV app's keyboard. Open the Google TV app on your phone and tap its keyboard while a field is selected on the TV. You can paste the address straight from your provider's message.
If you get an error
- "Couldn't reach the server. Check the address." The address is incomplete or mistyped. Enter it exactly as your provider gave it, including the port at the end (like
:8080). - "The provider turned down the username or password." One of them is wrong, or your subscription has ended. Watch upper and lower case; if it still fails, ask your provider.
- "This link didn't return a playlist." The link may be cut short, or it points to a web page rather than a playlist.
If the playlist is added but some channels won't open or keep freezing, the problem is usually on the provider's side. None TV is a player; the streams come straight from your provider.
What it costs on TV
None TV is free on your phone. Watching on Android TV is part of Premium; the yearly plan starts with a 3-day free trial, and you can cancel any time in Google Play. One subscription covers your phone, your tablet and up to 3 TVs.
